Corinna Vosse

Since 1994 Corinna Vosse has created various site specific performance pieces and interactive installations. Over the last couple of years she concentrated her work on urban environments, creating interventions combing her knowledge in the field of urban sociology with artistic strategies. Her work was shown in venues like PS122 and The Kitchen in New York. She was part of establishing Collective Unconscious, a performance space in New York and RAW, a cultural center in  Berlin. Recently she has initiated 'Kunst-Stoffe', a center making reusable materials available for the creative community.

‘Future Cities – Living Cities’

mood enhancer

mood enhancer is an installation and an ephemeral space. It functions as a medium for public intervention. It has appeared in Berlin, Pecs, Zagreb and Sofia, where interventions were realised. Each intervention shapes up in an exchange with the urban surroundings and includes the public. mood enhancer is constructed as an accessible hemisphere made of translucent tarp. It is airheld and has a diameter of 6m. It is suited for front and back projection.

In Sibiu mood enhancer will be set up as an interactive cinema. Each day a new video piece will be produced and shown. The footage will be projected onto the hemisphere and can be seen from outside and inside. The video pieces are being taken in certain areas of Sibiu. The areas will be chosen by audiences.

For that there will be a map of Sibiu that divides the city into a grid of 70 equally sized squares. The size of each of these areas will be 1 square kilometre. Each night visitors can give their vote for an area being investigated and represented the next day. The map and the voting area are inside the hemisphere.

Seen from the outside, mood enhancer will function like a magnifying glass of the city while being part of it, since it is set up in public space. Inside, it will provide an unusual and unexpected spatial experience. The shape of a hemisphere and the surrounding projections create a sacred atmosphere in which the physical city seems distant while present.

The footage taken in each chosen area will be shaped by the perspective and perception of a stranger not familiar with Sibiu. Thus what is familiar in the city may appear foreign, what was thought of to be mundane may be exciting and what is contested may seem meaningless. Fragments of live and living in the city are being brought to attention and presented for reflection. Each video piece will be around 20 minutes and will be shown in a loop, shown each night from 8pm – 9pm.

mood enhancer will be installed in an area of traffic where people of different parts of the city pass. It can be put up anywhere. Technical requirement is electricity (220V). For the video projections at least one beamer is needed, if more are available, the projections can form a three dimensional projection space. The beamers should be raised. A sign will bring attention to the entrance to the inside space, where the prepared map is displayed and the voting takes place. Here people can leave comments as well.
